Before following a town’s streets, it helps to follow its name. A 1927 Stone County booklet placed Reeds Spring among the hills, gathered around a spring of clear water. Its description was promotional, but the spring was central to the picture it presented. A 1927 promotional booklet gives the story a more local texture. Its Reeds Spring directory lists canning businesses alongside grocers, feed sellers, a blacksmith, an inn and the station agent. It boasts of 22 canning factories within twelve miles—a regional claim from that source, not a count within today’s city limits.
